Mr. Alvarado brings over fifteen years of experience in public education, including a decade in administrative roles. His diverse background includes positions as a special education teacher, special education coordinator, assistant principal, principal, director, and assistant superintendent. His administrative experience spans elementary, middle, high school, and central office levels, offering a comprehensive TK-12 perspective. Additionally, Mr. Alvarado has coached soccer, football, basketball, and softball, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to student development.

With a strong background in administration, organizational management, and teaching, Mr. Alvarado is dedicated to cultivating a culture of learning and feedback. His passion for education drives his vision of helping students achieve their full potential, making significant strides in improving academic achievement for all students and reducing the achievement gap for historically underserved populations.

Mr. Alvarado’s dedication to education is deeply rooted in his personal journey. Raised by his grandmother, he learned the invaluable lesson that one can achieve anything by following one’s heart, regardless of their background. This belief in the transformative power of education has been a driving force in his career, reinforcing the idea that a strong work ethic can overcome difficult circumstances.

Mr. Alvarado holds a special education teaching credential and an administrative services credential. Before joining Douglas County School District, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Ukiah Unified School District in Ukiah, CA. A native of Southern California, he earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and teaching credentials from the University of La Verne and later obtained his clear administrative credential from National University.

Mr. Alvarado has been married to his wife Nicollette for 19 years, and together they have three children: Addison, Axel, and Alena. Outside of work, they enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle, including snowboarding, hiking, ATV riding, and traveling.

Reflecting his belief in teamwork and collective effort, Mr. Alvarado recalls the words of Henry Ford: “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

DCSD looks forward to the leadership and vision Mr. Alvarado will bring to our community. Please join us in welcoming Mr. Alvarado as the new Superintendent of Douglas County School District.
