1. How long have you been involved with Douglas County School District? My whole life. Both of my parents were teachers in the district, I attended school here, and all of my children have gone to school here. I have also tutored students in the district for the past 25 years and worked as a parent volunteer.

2. What motivated you to run for the Board of Trustees? My love for this district and community. I love to help kids gain confidence and succeed and education is a huge part of their future success. I have a great respect and appreciation for school staff and want to support them.

3. What’s your favorite part about serving as a Trustee? My favorite part of serving as a Trustee is visiting the schools. I love talking with teachers, administrators, and staff and seeing all of the wonderful successes they are having in their schools. I love watching students engage in learning and attending their many activities.

4. What is your favorite memory or experience with Douglas County schools? The 23-24 Douglas varsity football season. It was a group of boys I have watched grow up in this valley including 2 of my sons. They had a very successful season, and it was so fun to see the community rally around them and support them. 

5. Where did you grow up, and where did you go to school? I grew up in the Ranchos. I attended CCMES, CVMS, and DHS. I have wonderful memories of all of these schools.

6. Who was your favorite teacher or mentor growing up, and why? That is a tough question, because I have so many. Several of my elementary teachers constantly challenged me and pushed me beyond the curriculum. They gave me opportunities that helped me gain confidence and instilled in me a desire to help others. I am so grateful for them. Mrs. Coverly, Mr. Perkins, Mrs. Anderson, and Mrs. McNeil, to name a few, all had a huge impact on me.

7. What is your vision for Douglas County School District? That it will continue to flourish. I would love to see our number of students increase as families see all that our district has to offer in educating their children. I know we are in difficult times right now, but I see us coming out of this better and stronger.

8. How do you stay connected with the schools in the district? I visit the schools often and try to attend many of their extracurricular activities. I also stay in contact with many parents and teachers. My favorite way to stay connected is when I visit a school to listen to teachers. I learn so much from them as they share their successes and concerns with me. I can feel their love for their students.

9. What are your favorite local spots in the community? The trails. I love being out in our beautiful valley. If I am not on the trails I am at Carson Valley Hot Yoga.

10. What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love mountain biking with my husband and hiking with my friends. Family History is also a passion of mine.

11. What’s a hidden talent you have that most people don’t know about? I love to knit and crochet. My grandma taught me when I was in 3rd grade.

12. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? I have always wanted to go to New Zealand. 

13. What’s something on your bucket list that you’re excited to accomplish? My husband and I plan a big hike or bike ride each year that we train for and accomplish. I look forward to this bucket list item each year. In the past few years we have hiked the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim and done several 50 mile mountain bike rides in the Sierras. We are still deciding what this year's challenge will be.

14. If you could instantly learn any skill, what would it be?

I would love to be able to learn other languages. Also, since my family has recently got into golf, I would love to learn to golf so I could join them.

15. What’s your go-to karaoke song? Hmm, I am not a talented singer. I love listening to whatever music my husband or kids turn on, but I don't sing along. 

16. What do you think makes Douglas County schools special? The people. We have a wonderful community of people that love our students and work tirelessly for their success. This includes not only staff, but parents, and community members. We have so many service clubs that donate time and money to helping students.
