Counseling
A Message from Mrs. Goering
Parents,
Happy September! We are off to a great start to this school year! Back to School Night is September 14th for PreK-4 and this is a great opportunity for your child to show off their classroom and for you to learn about the class happenings.
This month, I am gathering some baseline data from students to see how their school year is going and to check to see if they need any additional support. I am gathering data through "Pre-Tests" which is a quick 1-minute questionnaire with every student that asks the following questions:
-
How is the school year going?
-
Do you know who the counselor is?
-
Do you have friends?
-
Do you have an adult you feel like you could talk to at school if you have a problem?
-
Do you have anything bothering you outside of school?
-
What do you want to be when you grow up?
-
What do you miss about last year?
-
Do you have anything you want your teacher or counselor to know about you?
We use the data from these types of assessments to form small groups and/or check in with specific students. Staff will also start tracking certain patterns of behavior and may refer your child to me to work on specific skills either through a small group or a Check In Check Out mentor program.
Your support and encouragement is key to a very successful year for your child(ren). Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have further questions, concerns or if I can be of help to you and your child(ren). My email is agoering@dcsd.k12.nv.us and my phone number is

Student Council
Student Council consists of 3 representatives from each 4th and 5th grade class. The Student Council meets bi-weekly on Wednesdays during lunch. In the meetings we plan social events, school service events, and community service projects. In October and January, we will focus on our lollipop fundraisers and completing a community service projects! The first Student Council meeting will be Wednesday, September 20th. Elections will happen within the classrooms.
Kindness Club
We will be having Kindness Club this year in 3rd grade! Mrs. Davison is my co-advisor! We plan to meet on the first Thursday of every month at lunch time. Our main goal is to spread kindness and cheer throughout our school!
